11 weather-beaten songs of Tim Heraud continue his wry, sometimes wonk take on modern times. Recorded at Depot Sound and Parachute Studios Timbertops are Tim Heraud (vocals, ac. guitar), Stuart Shepherd (el. & ac. guitars, harmonica, melodica), Josef Orlowski (bass, slide guitar, keyboards, baritone guitar) and Erwin van Asbeck (drums, percussion).
The song King Country Cat is a guided tour of his hometown nowhere, an ode to the beauty of forgotten-ness. Pail Of Water has a nursery rhyme chorus slap-bang in the middle of a midnight street full of bars & brothels. Man Of The Sea is a love song plucked straight out of 12th century Europe & dropped down Wilco’s chimney. The only cover on the album is Understanding by early 80’s Taranaki band Nocturnal Projections, the original song’s Joy Division/Bauhaus ethic transformed into barrelhouse gospel.
This Is The Speed was recorded at Depot Sound and Parachute Studios, with engineer Micah Livesay delivering a live and direct, front-of-porch sound.
Tim has been writing and performing for 30 years, with a train of releases in alt country, “cowboy-surf” & folk. The current line-up of musicians took shape as Timbertops in Auckland 2017.
